7th Grade Math—Ms. Michelle Venard
This year each math class will be 90 minutes long! With this expanded time, I’m looking forward to going deeper with the math, doing more activities, and having time for students to work on practice work (homework)!
Class Expectations:
Homework
Homework is SUCH an important part of learning math, that there will be a no missing or incomplete policy in my classroom this year.
If a student comes to class with homework incomplete or missing:
This year we are using Ready Math, which is a math curriculum associated with the i-Ready program we used last year.

Michelle Venard
This year each math class will be 90 minutes long! With this expanded time, I’m looking forward to going deeper with the math, doing more activities, and having time for students to work on practice work (homework)!
Class Expectations:
- Be prepared—Come to class with supplies needed. Every day: pencil, paper, spiral notebook, trapper keeper/folder, planner, textbook. Other supplies may be needed on various days (colored pencils, markers, calculators)
- Be respectful—Behavior must be respectful for learning and as a courtesy to individuals (adults and peers)
- Be responsible—Homework is expected to be completed. There may be circumstances which arise at times, but a habit of NOT doing work is NOT an option. I am looking forward to helping each student move towards taking ownership of their learning.
- Homework—This is where skills/content is practiced. There will be work every day in math. Much of this may get done in class or in study hall. (This is Formative Assessment in PowerSchool. It accounts for 10% of the quarter grade). This MUST be done. I cannot accept incomplete or missing Homework!!
- Quizzes—Every couple days, we will have a short 4-5 question quiz based on previous days homework assignments. If a student doesn’t do well, I will be working with them to redo this quiz. These small, frequent quizzes will prepare them for the final test, so we want to be sure these can be passed! (This is Interim Assessment in PowerSchool. It accounts for 30% of the quarter grade).
- Tests—After every “chapter” or “unit”, we will have a larger test, pulling together all the concepts from that unit. If a student fails a test or is unhappy with their grade, they can retake the test. I will ask that a parent signs the original test and corrections are done for the test. (This is Summative Assessment in PowerSchool. It accounts for 60% of the quarter grade.)
Homework
Homework is SUCH an important part of learning math, that there will be a no missing or incomplete policy in my classroom this year.
If a student comes to class with homework incomplete or missing:
- They will fill out a form to turn in letting me know why they did not finish or do their homework.
- If the homework is not finished by the following day, the student will need to be pulled from lunch or after school on day to work with me in my room to finish it.
- Two days a week will be set for students to eat lunch in my room while finishing work OR
- Two days a week will be set for students to stay after school in my room to finish work.
This year we are using Ready Math, which is a math curriculum associated with the i-Ready program we used last year.
- Each student will have two consumable books assigned to them:
- Mathematics Instruction Book
- Mathematics Practice and Problem Solving
- Each student will have an I-Ready account (as last year)
- We will have weekly expectations for them to meet (such as, do 45 minutes of time on i-ready and pass at least one lesson.)
- They can access their i-ready account from any device that allows internet access. We will not begin i-ready until after our 1st full week of school.
